Senior year goes by fast, and summer is one of the best times to slow down for portraits that feel relaxed and true to you. A little planning can make the experience feel easy, comfortable, and even fun.

One of the biggest keys to a smooth session is choosing a time of day with flattering light. Early morning and the last couple of hours before sunset usually create a soft, natural look that works beautifully for senior portraits. It also helps to build in a little extra time so there is no rush getting from one spot to the next.

What you wear matters, too. Pick outfits that feel like you and allow you to move comfortably. Simple pieces, coordinated colors, and a mix of dressy and casual looks often photograph really well. If you are unsure, bring a few options and I can help narrow them down when we meet.

I make the process easy with a calm, friendly, organized approach. I know how to guide a session so we get the must-have shots while still leaving room for candid moments, real smiles, and natural connection. I also encourage you to bring your dog, bring a friend or bring your mom - who ever you trust as an extra set of eyes or to make you laugh. That balance is what makes portraits feel genuine and memorable.

Location is another part of the experience. Whether it's around Milford, MA, greater Boston or Cape Cod, there are so many great backdrops for summer senior photos, from simple outdoor settings to spots with a little more character. The goal is to choose a place that fits your personality and keeps the focus on you.

If you are feeling a little nervous, that is completely normal. Most seniors do. A relaxed conversation, a few easy prompts, and clear direction go a long way toward helping you feel comfortable quickly. Once that happens, the session starts to feel much more natural.

When you plan ahead and work with a photographer who keeps things simple, your senior session can be low-stress from start to finish. The result is a collection of images that feels confident, personal, and timeless.

If you are ready to create senior portraits you will love, Paige Brown Photography would be happy to help.
